Liam Breandán de Frinse(b1949)
Liam Breandán de Frinse was born in Belfast in 1949 Liam studied art under John Luke while serving an indentured apprenticeship at Harland and Wolff's shipyard. After taking degrees at Queens University of Belfast he lectured in Political Science there for a time before devoting himself full-time to art. A major turning point occurred in the early 1990s with the establishment of a studio in Switzerland where his work is widely known and where he now spends part of each year. Liam also works out of his studio in Belfast.

2004, Liam spent time in the Kingdom of Kerry, where he completed the longest line drawing in the whole of Ireland in collaboration with the international renowned Danish based artist Doris Bloom. A documentary feature has been made of the whole event. Liam also had a successful solo with The Tom Caldwell Gallery Belfast. A documentary entitled 'Portrait of the Artist' was made and broadcasted by NvTv in Belfast.

2005, Liam is the only artist in Ireland invited to show with Paola Trevisan Contemporary Art in Ferrara/Italy. Out of the 40 International Artists invited to participate in this prestigious exhibition Liam received the Ercole Este Prize for his contribution to international art.
Liam has been invited back to the Cill Rialaig Project in Kerry to part take in a performance celebrating mid summers eve entitled,' Many hands make light work'. And in October, Liam will be showing his new multimedia show entitled 'Crows and Roses -The Parliament of Crows' with the Jaffa Foundation in conjunction with the Naughton Gallery at the Festival at Queens University Belfast. In July 2006 another show will take place in the Palace of Wells Bath, entitled 'Ring a Ring of Rosies'.

Liam has travelled and exhibited widely in Ireland, the UK, France, America and Switzerland. He will shortly be traveling to Asia to research new work. He has received a number of awards in recognition of his outstanding talents. His work forms part of corporate and private collections worldwide. In 1993 he was nominated for the Turner prize. In1997 he represented Ireland at the international Celtic festival in Lorient. And March 2005, Liam won the Ercole Este Italy. His work has been shown in New York, Paris, London, Moscow, Barcelona, Lorient, South Africa, Australia and Switzerland, and the island of Ireland.
